The Art of Coexistence
Since moving to Marsworth, over forty years ago, Sheila has been pursuing her career in the visual arts.
During Lockdown she was lucky enough to have a studio in a local field where her fascination with the natural environment began; During that time of isolation she taught herself to make inks from the vegetation she found all around her, and learned the art of Eco Printing – in which a direct contact with nature, heat, water and pressure combine to create beautiful prints.
In general her work takes a critical view of social, political and cultural issues and is motivated by the obvious ironies of photography and the technical complexities of printmaking. These competing ideas coexist through a variety of materials and processes to create art that combines digitally manipulated photography, drawing, found objects and a host of printmaking techniques including dry-point etching, photogravure, gilding and Eco Printing.
This exhibition of prints celebrates works from 2000 up to the present day, at Artsmeet – a gallery within Watersmeet.
The exhibition in Rickmansworth, started on 28th March and goes right through to 26th June 2024
